If you currently have equipment please ensure you keep it in a secure place and return it as soon as possible.
New Late Return of Equipment
· If equipment is returned late, you will incur a fine, and your account will be automatically suspended.
· The fine will be £1 per day, up to a maximum of £5.
· To pay the fine you must go to the webshop and select the penalty fee you need to pay.
· Once payment is made the Media Centre staff will reactivate your account.
Equipment bookings will time-out after 30 minutes if not collected at scheduled time. In this instance, you will need to re-book your kit, subject to equipment availability.
Equipment must be pre-booked before arrival to the facilities office. Equipment cannot be taken without a booking being made prior to collection time.
When equipment is borrowed, the user is responsible for the equipment.
· All equipment must be booked in advance from the connect2 booking system. Last minute bookings are not guaranteed.
· Booked equipment must be collected by the person in whose name it was booked.
· You must book equipment for yourself, and you cannot create bookings on behalf of other students.
· Equipment must not be booked or loaned to anyone outside the university, in doing so your account will be suspended.
· Equipment can only be checked in and checked out during opening hours. (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. During Bank holidays and Graduation Week the facilities office is closed.)
· Some items have restricted availability for specific modules this equipment will only appear on the booking system to students enrolled on those modules.
· You cannot book equipment that you have not been trained on such as C-stands, prime lenses, follow focus and grip equipment.
· Equipment cannot be booked on the spot from the facilities office. All bookings must be made online from the booking system. NB. All Lab PCs in The Media Centre have Connect2 as the default homepage on Google Chrome. We also recommend you bookmark the website on your personal devices.
· Be aware that if you don’t collect equipment within 30 minutes the booking will be cancelled and made available to other students.
· Please be reminded that when borrowing media equipment, you are prohibited from making any modifications, including firmware updates, and using personal equipment such as personal lenses with university cameras.
· When booking equipment, it is important to include all items needed, such as batteries, tripods, lights stands, and other items required.
· Remember to bring your student ID when collecting the equipment.
· It is important that you arrive on time for your booking as it will only remain on the system for 30 minutes.
· Always check the equipment before leaving the facilities office, if there are any problems facilities office staff will change the equipment. If you do not check the equipment, you will be held responsible for any missing items.
· Equipment must be collected by the person who has created the booking. However, other students can return the equipment.
· If you have forgotten to add items to a booking you must edit your booking online. Facilities office staff will not book equipment on spot.
· Equipment must be returned in the condition it was provided.
· Tripod baseplates must be taken off camera and placed back onto the tripod.
· XLR cables must be coiled correctly. Here is a useful video.
· Lenses must be clean with the front and rear caps back on.
· If equipment is returned in an unacceptable condition, the facilities office will NOT accept it and it will be considered a late return.
· When returning the equipment there is no one hour window, it must be returned before the end time.
· Leaving the equipment in or around the facilities office is not considered as being returned. It is your responsibility to make sure that equipment is being checked in. You can view the booking status live on connect2 website.
You can book Studio 1 and 3 for your practical exercises or film assignments via connect2 website. Studio 2 can also possibly be booked however this requires permission from the Media Centre and must be supervised by Media Centre staff. Please note Studio 2 can only be accessed during Media Centre opening hours (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and not during Bank holidays or Graduation Week).
